Today, 17% of all energy used in Canada goes toward running our homes. By using less energy in your home, you can help reduce the production of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that contribute to climate change and harm the environment.

Maintenance tip

The building envelope is made up of a house's exterior walls, basement, exposed floors, ceilings, windows, roofs and doors. As homes age in Canada's severe climate, tiny cracks open in the building envelope. Any future renovations to the home may affect the house's building envelope. Keep this in mind when evaluating your home's energy use.

Address

Identifies the house to which the rating applies.

Energy Efficiency Rating

Allows comparison of energy performance between houses of the same size. The more efficient the house, the higher the rating number.

Scale

The low end of the scale represents a house that is built to minimum building code standards.

100 represents a house that is very well insulated, airtight, sufficiently ventilated and that requires no purchased energy (such as a solar powered home.)

Estimated Annual Energy Consumption for the House Under Stantdard Operating Conditions

Allows comparison of the energy consumption of the house to similar houses, and helps esitmate energy costs.

File Number

Official EnerGuide number assigned to homes that have been evaluated.

Evaluated By

Name and telephone number of the EnerGuide service organization.

Date

The date that the energy efficency evaluation was conducted.

Home Energy Efficiency - Course one

This online learning course provides real estate agents with the knowledge required to assist their clients both in improving their home's energy efficiency, and in the selection of energy-efficient homes for purchase and sale.

Home Hydro Usage - Course two

This online course educates real estate agents and brokers on how electricity is generated, consumption patterns of electricity in the home, and how electricity can be conserved to improve energy efficiency in their own homes, and in the homes of their clients. This course is recommended for those who are looking to increase their background knowledge of electricity consumption patterns in order to effectively counsel their buyers and sellers on improving energy efficiency.

Green Heating and Cooling Options For The Home - Course three

This course provides important information on the types of heating and cooling systems available in the home, how to identify these systems, as well as how to ensure an energy system is running as efficiently as possible. You will also receive tips on how best to provide this information to your buyers and sellers who are looking to either improve the efficiency of their homes prior to putting them on the market, or to those purchasers who are looking for a 'green' home.
